I bought a 641 that smokes at the breather on the valve cover. I tore down the engine and it does not appear to have any sleeve damage just normal wear. The cylinder bore is about .025 larger than the factory bore of 3.4375. Will new rings solve the problem or do I need new sleeves?

While not as entertaining as RAB, who was/is being serious, short answer is no.

You could drop in a set of oversized rings and get away with it (fingers crossed). .025 in just shy of 30 over. You'd want find a set of rings that has a solid one piece oil ring (trust me). If you properly gaped them they would do a good enough job to stop smoking and run the machine (for the most part). But it would not be ideal. You would likely have some piston slap (pistons rubbing/banging against cly walls) and may continue to smoke from breather until they get wore in and match up with the out of round issue. Rings alone would be a desperate, got to get it running, real cheap, and fast patch (that I have done before).

Best thing would be a sleeve/piston kit if your just concerned about a little blow by. Because rings alone likely won't have a running tractor running much better in the end. Nor will they solve the real issue (cly wear).

Errin, I was being serious. Not likely that any oversize pistons are fitted, but you never know. Other than that, my answer would be definately no, even without measuring the other parameters.

Are the bores oval? Don"t know.
Are they tapered? Don"t know
Are the pistons standard size? Don"t know.
We are talking inches? or mm for wear?
Are they are out of spec? At 25 thou, yes.
Are the ring grooves in spec? Don"t know.
What do you mean by 0.025. How have you measured it?

So the answer is, surprisingly, I don"t know.
