Opening day of juvenile season Jr shot a decent 6 point buck with a 30/30.Last night he got his second deer with a 1979 F100.He hit this deer at 55 mph head on at about 10:00 pm.It bent the bumper into the tire with the fender too.Bent the new radiator, condenser, and transmission cooler. It tore the truck all to pieces in the front. The passenger door won't even open. Now were hunting for parts not deer anymore.Them ole trucks are tough but if it had been a little car it could have been very serious indeed. The frame is bent where the bumper mounts also. What fun!

Sorry to hear about the "hunting " accident there. Tell him to look on the bright side, I have only hit one and it was on my bike so he was very lucky! Ya think your gonna be able to match that color again?? :) Glad he's ok as sheetmetal can be replaced ya know?

So does this mean he is gonna be driving the ole Super 88 to school and work now? Might not be a bad thing, it'll keep the sut blown out of it :)

I hit my first deer last week. I had just set the cruise @ 55 and looked up and a deer wuz lick’in the white line. I hit the brakes bout the time he decided to switch lanes, Too late I got me one, I did not stop to see iffin I could revive’em, I wuz only a few miles from the house and when I got home I had enuff deer hair on the bumper to make a good fish’in lure. I called my buddy and told’em I hit hiz pet deer when I left at ‘bout Hemi lane. He told me the next day it wuz around 100 lb . My 94 GMC K1500 had no damage, hard to believe but so. I traded a newer truck fer it with, got sum boot. The guy who owned it drove it home to clean it out, well next day I saw a small dent on the right front fender and ask’em if the dent wuz in it when we traded, he said no he hit a deer on the way home. This truck has taller tars on it and sits high if I had hit the deer with a car it would have totaled it.
One of the local body shops has 12 badly damaged vehicles that hit deer’s. I hope the hunters kill’em all, enny one need the meat be at my house @ 10 enny nite and take yer limit. I am infested with’em but have not had a problem with’em eat’in my garden go figger.

The front bumper on my '92 F250 was cracking a few years ago, so I took it off and made a bracket out of 6" x 3/8" plate that ran all along the back of the bumper - and welded ears on that to bolt it back to the frame.

A few weeks later I smacked a big 8 point whitetail as solid as could be at about 60 mph - it felt like picking up a limp pillow case full of chicken bones when we tried to see if anything was salvageable.

It didn't leave so much as a scratch on my pickup.

Not sure if I was just lucky - after seeing/hearing other people's stories - or if that bumper brace really made that much difference....

Man you have to convince Junior that it is a lot cheaper to just use the 30-30. Those Ford pickups add a lot to the cost of the meat by the time it hits the dinner plate. If he is going to use the Ford he might consider a lower speed since the inertia would probably kill one at 25mph and do half the damage to the deer as well as the front end. He may have to lead them a little more if they are running though. ;-)

I built a deer guard for my kids when they drove their trucks to school. I think they hit about 6 of them and never damaged the okd ford.

Yup! BIL built a "cowcatcher" for the front of his Dodge Dually. The bumper weighed 600+ pounds! He hit a deer the day after he installed it and the deer STILL did in his fender! He's got one of the same type on his F-350 Ford. Kinda looks like something out of "Road Warriors"!
