Hi everybody I am new to this area about tractors and always had an interest in antique tractors especially the period around the steam and gas engine/steel wheel era. I just bought a Case 930 CK with 4 low only that some of you may know about through this forum. I also became addicted to this web site where I spend a lot of my time browsing, learning and being entertained!!! I read alot about tractors that I have no idea about such as 18-32 crossmotor or the VAC. What I'm tring to say is: Is there a web site that shows pictures of different model tractors? How can I place a picture of a tractor to a model? I would love to see a simple picture of a particular tractor that some of you are talking about. One more: What is a crossmotor? Thanks, Chris Hotchkiss, CO

Cross motors were Case tractors built with the motor mounted perpendicular to the tractor chassis. They were meant mainly to drivw threshing machines and by mounting the motor crosswise the belt could be driven directly off the end of the crankshaft.

A cross motor is a very angry one. Sometimes this malevolent attitude is manifested by bucking back on the crank (on old machines) or refusal to start at all. Other motors may be more devious, taking their unwitting owners out into the middle of 200 acres before ceasing all function. It is best to make peace with your machine before coaxing it to life. Laying fresh oil and filters on the altar helps, as do frequent tune ups and greasing. Hell hath no fury like a tractor scorned. Hope that helps.
