Case Model C ... HELP!

Hi All. I'm new to this forum and hope someone can help. I just bought a Case Model C and wish to restore it. First I'd like to know what I have. It has a wide front end so I thought it was a C, but the tool box plate indicates it's a CC. So, maybe someone changed the tool box. Were there original CCs that weren't row crop? It has two brake pedels, and my 15 yr old cousin (who's a spounge for old iron) thinks the brake pedels agree with the plate and suggests it's a CC. I haven't moved it home yet, so I haven't checked the engine Serial # under the gunk to see if it agrees with the tool box. Also, it has huge old tires on the back and car tires on the front. What are the size tires it should have? Thanks in advance. -Jack

This is all good stuff.
I think you may be on to something, Chances R. I looked again at the photo I have of the serial # on the tool box and it could be a CO. It was painted over at some time, and someone has scraped the paint off and scratched the plate up pretty good. When I get to the tractor next, I'll have to look at it more critically. I'll also look for the # on the engine. You folks are helping me have fun with a new tractor before I can actually dive into it. Anyone know how many orchard models they made in 1932 or 34? -Jack

DC Tom sent me some information about 10 years ago. It shows no CO, CV, or CC4's in 1932.
IN 1934 181 CO's.

I had a Case CC back in the 60's. It had 11/28's on the rear and a front axle made from a Chev. Truck front axle. Originally it was a Narrow front and Steel Wheels all around. My Neighbor had a narrow Front also. Those are the only two I can remember ever seeing.

Jack;
Sounds like you have a CC-4. It will have adjustable rear wheels and the front axle will be mounted under the radiator like the C. A CC-3 with wide front axle will have the axle mounted in front of the tractor like the normal tricycle front tractor... Gene

Thanks Gene. What makes a CC-4 different from a C? Where can I get info, specs, photos, repro manuals etc.? Also, the guy I bought it from said it was a 1934, but the serial # on the tool box indicates a 1932 (#C0307503). Above this serial number, where it says "Size" it says "CC."

ok... I'm gonna throw 2 cents in here...

I think what Jack has IS a CO.

First of all, look at the serial number he posted under the picture. C0307503 That second character is probably an O and not a zero, and even if it was a zero, that wouldn't make sense according to the formula for the six digit serial numbers. Therefore, we are looking at a 1932 CO.

Second, according to "150 Years of JI Case", the CO DID have turning brakes, like a CC.

And thirdly, the CO had the same front axle as the C, and that looks to be the case (pardon the pun) here.

I'd imagine that the stamp on the tag under Model should read CO, but part of the second character is worn off. You may want to check the serial number stamped on the block to see what it says. You'll find that on the mag side of the engine, and right where the head and block meet, you will find a small area machined flat near the fuel tank. The serial number will be stamped there.

Hope this helps...

Here is a few items
A CC has the following:
turning brakes
narrower fenders than a C
36" rubber
PTO is more common
A CC-4: has the wide front with a spacer plat between the top of the axle and the front end.
A C: has 24"? rubber
wider fenders
No truning brakes unless a CV CO

Thanks Chances R.

So far I figure I have:
* Turning breaks
* Wide fenders
* 15 - 24 rear tires
* Wide front end attached beneith radiator
* Tool box tag that says "CC"
* No PTO
* Unknown about front end spacer plat

Does this make it a CV or a CO and what does that mean? I've got more photos if they would help me id the tractor. I'm feeling really stupid about all this, but I'm new to these tractors. Thanks again for all your help.
-Jack

I tell ya what I think. The serial number plates were stamped. It could be you have a CO and when you looked at the tag you read CC. If it wasent stamped really well the CO/CC may be hard to tell the difference. I also noticed that the air cleaner was missing. If under the hood there is a special piece mounted on the air cleaner intake that would also point towords it being a CO. Sorry I cant find any pictures of the special air cleaner piece on my web site.
