Hi;
Do you guys in the States have push ploughs? This is an Overum made in Sweden (they took over the old English company of Ransomes some years ago).
Ransomes tried the idea with very limited success in the early 1980's and we also made a few when I worked for Dowdeswell ploughs in the 1990's. It puts a lot of strain on the tractor & the plough.
The usual set up is 3 on the front, and 4 or 5 on the rear 3 point.
Pictures of US versions would be interesting to see.
Cheers David

I"d seen pictures of them before but with a 2 bottom roll-over plow on the front and a 3-4 bottom roll-over on the rear. would make a small field easier to deal with. Front 3pt hitches are an option on some US models (FOrd/Versatile bi-directional) and there are companies that make front 3pt add-ons.

David, love the photos. Keep them coming. If you want to read an interesting article on push plows, google "world record plowing". August 2002 a MF 8280 plowed 620.899 acres in 24 hours using a 4 bottom push plow and a 13 bottom pull plow. This was a new world record.

A year ago I went to the national plowing match in the U. K. My son and his family were living there while he was on a goverment assigment. I saw those plows then. I was impressed with the complete plowing match. J>

Hi Buddy;
Love the phrase "GIZMO" - sorry I didnt take a photo of that particular machine. Its basically a set of heavy duty S shaped spring tines with a crumbler-roller behind.
Everyone here makes a frame with every concevable combination of tines, discs, rolls, packers etc and say "its the best seedbed implement ever made". SIMBA here make some very heavy duty cultivators which perform and last a long time.
I'll post a couple of other gizmo cultivator photos in the next couple of days for you.
Appreciate everyones comments, nice to know that people do look at my photos. Will answer questions asked.
Cheers David

"Gizmo" is what we "Americans"call anything we don't know the real name for. Was also the name for an alien character on some stupid TV show. Also the nick-name for one of my painters at work.

Nice picture, but I have a question. You guys still plow?? Here in Illinois, everything is minium till or no-till. Lots of deep ripping going on. My farm is considered highly erodable, I can't plow anymore. Have to no-till bean stubble and can chisel plow cornstalks, but have to leave a certain amount of residue at planting. Don't your soil ever wash away in rains? 3 weeks ago, we went from Rock Island, Ill. to Saint Louis, Mo. and only saw 1 field plowed in Central Ill. Any other fields were disked cornstalks or chisel plowed or left alone. Enjoy your pictures, nice to see how you farm across the pond. Chris

Aloha, It looks like if the plough ever got stuck by hitting a rock etc, the tractor would do a vertical jack-knife. LOL

No offense, But here in the states we learned a long time ago that it's a h**l of a lot easier to pull a log chain than to push one.

I guess it's no surprise, then, that Dr Gill Samuels, the woman who invented Vi*gra, hails from North England.

I remember seeing an MF poster at a dealer back in the nineties with a similar set up. I think it was a picture from Europe though. Dave

That's the first time I've heard of such, and the dangdest thing I've seen in a while.
Seems like if a pin broke you could total the tractor.
Lotsa luck, Wm
