Well I waited 3 hrs, humidity above 40%. The first bale started hard, but then things went well. I got 6 bales baled before it got to dark to see. I think if I am going to do this stuff, I had better get the lights on the 560 and 856 working.

Here in Nebraska(and other places I'm sure) some of the best hay is made at night. Let the hay get dry, stems and leaves, then bale at night when a little dew starts to set in. The leaves fall off of hay that is baled too dry.

Around here (s.w.Pa) it gets damp from dew a bit before dark and too tough to bale-unless you want rocks. Where ya located?

SW IA. I had land (34 acres) come out of CRP Oct 1, and I have been trying to get hay made on it. It did not cooperate ie rained much of October. I still have about half to go.

What happens is that I mow a couple of days after work, then rake and try to bale. It sometimes gets too dry to flow into the baler right, thats the way it was earlier today.

Get up with the sun and then watch the hay close. Just when its ready hit it fast and hard till it gets to dry. Then pick up what you have and wait till late in the day and hit it fast and hard again. BTDT and its not fun but slowly you can get it done

That's the plan...have to wait for the frost to come off tomorrow... Then hit it.
