Well, my brother and I went and talked to the guy today, after re-looking and seeing just where the line is. Turns out, I only cut off (3) 2-3"x8' hawthorn (nasty thorns, not grown for looks or anyhitng else. Just a plain old weed, took maybe 5 years to get that big at the most) The 2 bigger trees (about 6") I cut that fell into their yard on their "shrubs" (decorative GRASS.....) were just on our side and I had every right ot whack them things down (again, hawthorn).

Well, this guy expected us to pay to have 3 nice 3" maples spaded in to replace the weeds I cut out. Flat out, no hesitation, HE!! NO!!!!! Then my brother, who knows trees, pointed to the 6-10 pine trees he has planted about 1' from the line, and says "that there variety will get anywhere from 15-25 ft. in diameter, and I'll be the first one out here as soon as they grow over the line to go and flat face them with a hedger" Oh NO NO NO!!! I'll take care of that!!! he screams....

Then my brother points to a couple shovels full of clay and gravel that obviously someone threw onto our side, and it was right in the middle of his lot. "Why would I throw that in your feild when I have an open lot right next to me?!?!?!?" Don't know and don't care, but that ain't cool.

Basically, he's pisssed that the bigger trees weren't on his side(can't get anything for me cutting them down), and he said the only reason he liked that lot is because of the nice, "rustic" fence row. That's his retirement house, turns out his son was in a grade ahead of me in school. He was a whiner just like his dad too.

Long story short, we got him to be happy on 2 $25 trees from the nursery my brother used to work at, and he's permanantly on our shiit list, meaning if that feild needs manure on thanksgiving or Christmas, well, It'll get manure. We don't have any restrictions yet as to when we can/can't haul manure yet in the winter, although we normally pile until spring.

In the future, if I ever have to trim the trees by his house, they're getting it done right on the line, flat face power company style. Heck, I may even decide to cut down one or 2 more that are on our side....

Long story short, don't get the farmer in your back yard angry. He won't forget, and he'll do everything he can to get you back within the law. The war is on.

Oh, btw- for the burning of the brush, my dad called the town hall and asked about a permit. As long as it's brush and the like, we only have to keep an eye on it and no permit required. They do like to know where you are going to be burning, but not really a prerequisite to burn. Kinda nice ot know there are still some places that protect the little guy to some extent.

Good fences make good neighbors. I agree about you having the right to cut trees and branches over on your side of the line... at least that is what the law in Indiana says anyways. However, if you cut a tree and can't get it to fall on your side you shouldn't be cutting it unless the neighbor gives permission to fell it to his side. Especially if there is anything to damage. Funny how a useless bush becomes a 500 dollar bush when a tree or tractor or whatever damages it. So I can see why this guy is so steamed. Best thing would be to keep it cool. Ya'll gotta live side by side for a while.

Wish we could, but it's not even legal to shoot on our own property because of all the houses and businesses being too close. Corse, that being said, my brothers have shot up an old junk piano with a 12 gauge (including on of their snobby (ex)girlfreinds who was a music major), As well as dismissing the occasional rabbit, or the rooster that crowed and woke up their 1 1/2 year old son at 4:30 in the morning... That was grandpa's old 22 single shot...

When my sister had her place (SC) fenced the company that did it cut not only trees in the way, but 20' to the side. They noted that that was legal. It also was handy as they had a contract to remove the brush and several of the "brush" trees were large hardwood. And pissed the neighbors off when they cut the ones on his side too. Probably made as much in lumber as she paid them for fence.

MX track is fine unless you are like my neigbors who run on the road with their toys at 3am. Don't mind the occasional night on the track, but 3am with no headlights and on a road 1/2 mile from the track and their house? Just rude.

Had snowmobilier top my new pinse and dodonuts in the new alfalfa (in about 3" of snow). Wife mentioned it to a neighbor who got real quiet. Found out later it was her husband... no more problems.

My mom just turns out the shepherds, or calls one of the neighbor boys to come over and "discuss" it with trespassers. She's good about letting neighbors on if they ask, but b rude once or cut a fence without fixing it and you're in for it.

I've got pretty strict rules for my track. There are always a few idiots on bikes or sleds that have no clue what so ever. I'm a little out of the city at the end of a dead end road that leads to crown land so I don't get the idiots. Dave

Around here you are supposed to get a burning permit because there are to many idiots who don't know when to burn. Also they want you to call and tell them on the actual day you are burning because of the the busy bodies with their cell phones are calling in to report a fire.

Put a big sign out there with checkered flags hanging on it and say "future sight of Donavan's motorcycle and atv race track, coming summer 2007"!

Ya know, my brother did mention starting up a little road track for those pocket rockets.... We've got a repair shop right around the corner from us that selss/services bikes & ATV's, they've got a little dirt track themselves and ride around at all hours of the night & day.

Then we've got WIR- Wisconsin International Raceway- about 1 mile east of us. Every Thursday night in the summer they've got races, and then the weekend is drag raqcing and any other "big" race. Unfortunately, I think the neighbors have learned to live with some noise. Stink, on the other hand.....

Of course, if I'd hang a sign like that, the rest of the hill billy neighbors and gear heads that drive past would really like the idea and would probably do the work for me! There is one MX track about 1/2 hour away in Chilton, I think they'd like a change of scenes.....

FUTURE SITE OF MEGAPORK!!!

It definitely gets a response.

What's wrong with a MX track? I bought land to do exactly that. The old farmer across the way is the most supportive. He gets sick of people thinking it's supposed to "quiet and peaceful in the country". He says as long as it's not at night and people respect him on the road, no problem. It helps when I can pull him out with the cat if he gets stuck. Get the land rezoned and say it's good for the community and stops illegal riding. You'll have new neighbors in no time! More tolerable too. If the people living there don't move, they'll be planting trees by the dozens. In my case the farmer is the only one who lives close. Good idea, most people hate dirt bikes. For no real good reason though. You mention motorcycle and they think of motorcycle gangs. Dave

Some people like your neighbors just like to complain. When I applied to sub-divide my former acreage, a new neighbor that had only been there a couple years, because they bought a sub-divided lot beside mine complained. They were complaining about everything and even went to the county meeting. They complained about run off water. We had a trench dug when we first moved in because all the run off from the entire sub-division drained through are field. Then this woman started complaining about the septic waste. I shut her up real fast when the county put up an aerial photo of the proposed sub-division. It clearly showed their septic mound in the picture. I took out my copy of the plumbing code and made note that their mound was way too close to my property line! She shut up real fast and left the room. She waited 45 minutes for me to come out and was practically in tears because their septic mound would cost several thousand dollars to move. She didn't want there to be any hard feelings! I couldn't believe it. Only because I'm a nice guy, I didn't press the issue with the county. I think I should have. Some people figure that everybody is just there to please them. BS. Dave
