This is not really very far off the topic. I use this trailer to haul my tractors and golf cart to work and shows and also my mower and small backhoe when I move them. Has any one seen, or used a unit called a "Gorillia Lift" tail gate counterbalance spring/cable set up? I want to install one on my tail gate which is4'x6' and weighs around 250#. I am presently using a boat trailer winch, pullley and cable set up, it works good, but I have visions of it scattering my fingers, teeth and nose since you have to lean over to work it and your face and hands aren't very far out of the line of fire if it slips a notch, or breaks a cable under load. This loos like a safer approach. They have a website for reference. wwwgorillia-lift.com They look good in their ads and on the website. Gene

Friend of mine has it on his trailer, it's great. Makes dropping or raising that tailgate a fingertip operation with no fears of smashed toes or fingers.

Where I work we have a trailer that we had made for us and the guy made basically the same thing. Two horizontal pipes over the fenders with pull type garage door springs in them anchored at the front of the pipe and a cable out the rear ends to the gate. Adjust tension by moving the anchor end forward or back.

Hello John, how are you? Yes,I did in fact buy this trailer from you. It has been very satisfactory. Only problem is that when I added enough reinforcement to the tailgate to drive my small backhoe on to the trailer it wound up weighing almost 300# and it is heavy. The unit did come from Northern Tool, my wife and daughter gave it to me for my birthday in August and I have just gotten around to installing it. Gene

Glad its working out for you. I kinda miss tha trailer every now and then, especially when I load the Cub up on my big one and thats all I take to the show, but its ok.Im wondering if those will work on single ramps, which is what my current trailer has.

They are the best thing we ever put on our trailer. My dad is 73 years old, and was having a hard time lifting the tail gate on the trailer, we put the gorilla lift on it and it makes night and day differance in lifting the tail gate, it does nto actually lift the gate, it just keeps tension on it so when you pick it up, it assists you picking it up.

Leland,
I can get two differant ones, one is a Gorilla lift, has the lift assist on both trailer rails, the other only has a lift on only one rail and it is a Ballard, The Ballard is $189.00, the Gorilla Lift is 269.95. The Ballard is good to asist up to a 180lb tailgate, the Gorilla lift is good up to 300# tailgate. Says it reduces the lifting by 90% on the Ballard, we have the Gorrilla lift on our trialer and it has been worth every penny to help my dad raise and lower the tailgate on the trailer. Yes, it also helps lower by not having all that weight pulling down on you when you put the tail gate down.
