There's a bulletin for the condition you describe.#03-03-08-002B.The shock absorbers at front need to be removed and the lower part of the upper inslators need to be replaced with part # 15834275.~brad

May also be the rubber bushings in the front end. NAPA should have a spray lub for them. Don.t just use anything it will make it worse.

I'm no auto mechanic, but in my 1998 Yukon, I had a leak in my power steering unit that caused a noise about like you described. I got power steering fluid with a leak stopping ability. It took care of the noise.

Does it sound like something rotating thats making the noise? Like a wheel bearing or cv joint, or is it a bad ball joint. You have to jack up the truck and take the load off a ball joint to see if its loose.

I agree with MN Scott that the vehicle has to be jacked up and have the load off the ball joints to be able to tell.
My dad had a squeak for a while and a ball joint let go at 20 mph and put him off the road 15 feet from a hydro pole.
It would be wise to have the front end checked out completely.
