With the 2007 new schedule for daylight savings time, what to all the computers, digital watches, Vcr's, etc that automatically change time? Any experts out there..... ..... ?

Just in case someone may not know where to look for it -

To disable automatic DST changes on older Windows computers (98 etc), double click on the clock (time), then select the 'Time Zone' tab. Remove the checkmark from 'Automatically Adjust Clock for Daylight Saving Changes'. Click OK. Now the changes will be yours to make when the time comes...

What is the point of messing with the clocks anyway?
The folks in Ind. dont do DST and they are still with us.

I have a wall clock that's supposed to automatically re-sync the time to the NISTF13C atomic clock signal. It apparently didn't pay attention to the clock change.

As for the computers... 95/98/ME will not change. They've reached their end-of-life as far as Microsoft is concerned. 2000 might get an update for it. XP and Vista will have an update, but it might not get put in on many because of people disabling automatic updates or because the new GenuineAdvantage authenticity check will forbid the download of the update. They've got about a year to make a change that could be done in under 5 lines of code. That's what we call, in the software world, an "easy fix."

Any other devices, like my wall clock and auto-setting watches, won't change right unless the broadcasted time signal they sync to is adjusted. So they'll probably be wrong for the extra month. There's a term for that, too: "planned obsolescence."

95/98 and ME will change as long as you have the box checked to change. All my 98's changed. Has nothing to due with windows updates.

Can we assume that instead of changing the clocks once unless its automatic, it won't matter which day. The computer remains at whatever time we set it at. If it automatically changes for DST then we need to disable the auto change function in advance or simply change the clock once more. If I take my computer from the US to another country that has more time zones or may or may not recognize any daylight savings changes then setting the computer manually is all that is required. Am I wrong?

OK. Tell me more. I work in Control Systems/Automation and am offshore right now with a bunch of Honeywell, Allen Bradley and Dell machines. They all changed last night like they were supposed to. One of the first things we checked this morning. A-OK out here in the Gulf of Mexico... except for the phone system. It still has the old time. Glad I'm not responsible for those things.
Choppering out tomorrow on the way home to check on the steers.

My phone/caller ID hasn't changed yet either. I think it will the first time a call comes in.

Was at work last night. My cell phone did not change when all the computers did. I turned it off for a little while and turned it back on and it went to the right time. Kinda strange. Going down the parkway it will change with in a mile of the sign that says Eastern Time Zone but did not change on it's own last night.
