In a recent thread, there were comments regarding the JD 5525 and an engine problem. Others added some founded, and some seemingly unfounded comments reagarding the 5000 series and quality. One suggested a JD 6000 series was better but I believe that has the same engine as the 5000.
I have owned a JD 5520 with good results and am thinking of a new JD 5525 or perhaps a JD 6000 series. I believe the 5525 is made in Mexico and the 6000 in Germany. I like the 6000 cab.
What are the thoughts on the quality of the JD 5000 or 6000 series from those who own or have first-hand experience with them? I like the JD's I have had and my only other choice might be a Kubota.

If you"re looking at Kubota, might also want to check out Kioti. Deutz Fahr is another option.

I'd nix the Kitoti, just a knock off Kubota, not as well built, and not near the dealer support.

No doubt the 6000 series have got more iron in them, but it all depends on your needs. In my case, I want a tractor thats more nimble and will easily fit in the woods, so out of the two choices, I would choose the 5025. I don't really like the new 5025 because they built them bigger in physical size, they are taller than the previous models and MFWD is 7' wide, which I would much rather have a 6' width because things like my brushhog are 6', and I don't want to have to widen the roads in my woods. I really like the size of the 5005 series myself, those the MFWD versions are 6' wide and they are pretty short and nimble so that would go really good on my place. I looked at the 5205, the most powerful of the series, which is 50pto hp, but I really would like to have maybe 15 more horses, and different transmission choices, with a power reverser option, and tire options like the 5025 series, then they would be really nice. Bigger isn't always better, it just depends on your uses, now if you wanted a heavy duty loader tractor and had the room for its larger size, a 6000 would be it.

I have had fantastic service from my 5010! Been running it for about 29 years now pulling a 12 foot drag scraper that's laser controled. I have no idea how many hours are on it. I'm on the second engine that has probably 7000 hours now and from the clutch back is original except for turning brakes. I found a "new" 5020 in case the old 5010 gives up.

Six cylinder 1960's/1970's or 1990's?

No personal experience with 5000 JDs, but they seem to hold their value suprisingly well considering the negative comments about them.

Oh, I have an old beat up Kubota which is still ticking. Would get another in a heartbeat if the occasion arose.

I have had two 5000 series Deere's, and now have Kubota's. Take a good hard look at a new M series Kubota. They are as good as anything else out there in that size, no matter what the guys who've never owned one say.

I agree with Luke about the Kubota's, I would also look at McCormick if you have a dealer nearby. I bought a MTX120 2 years ago and am happy with it. I think the cab is a little better(more room) than deere and mirrors, training seat etc were included not add on options. I think they all make good tractors now, but I believe 5000 series are a cheaper version, but it all depends what you will be doing with the tractor....Jim

I just purchased a 5203 and like it very well so far. From all the research I have done these appear to be very reliable and dependable tractors. The Deere dealers say they have very litle problems with them and they have sold tons of these in the last three years or so that they have been out. I was somewhat afraid of the 5000 series because of some of the stories I had heard about some of the early ones that had problems. I have a neighbor that has a 5300 that has been beat up and has about 3500 hours and has given very little problems.
