Have a 1975 John Deere 4430 tractor that has great steering and brakes, but the SCV hydraulics and 3pt are very jery when oil is hot or cold. The hyd fluid level is good, screen is clean, hyd filter is new, replaced the charge pump with a new JD HI capacity one, pump drive shaft is good, JD rebuilt the hydraulic pump(new stroke control valve and orings), replaced the priority valve and the hydraulics are STILL jerky. When I put a gauge in the SCV the pressure jumps from 2300 down to 1800 at 1800RPMs. The SCV and 3pt will not hardly work at RPMs under 1200. Any advice would be helpful. THANKS, MARK

You say the steering and brakes work fine but I'd like to suggest there may be internal leakage somewhere in those systems anyway. I have a 2755 I bought used and the remotes have been a little flakey now for a while but only recently has the steering been acting up. I'm thinking there may have been leakage there all along and its gotten worse. At least thats where I'll go first when I get around to fixing it. Sounds like you've done real well covering every thing else, these closed center hydrualics sure can be frustrating.

Sounds like the oil should be routed back into the oil filter cover instead of dumping into the trans case. There may well be split in the low pressure trans pipe work that isn't readily visible during inspection. When and under what circumstances did this problem appear.

We had same problem with the loader on and put an JD supplied aux tank in front of radiator and problem went away.If their is a problem I wouls suspect the supply pump in TRans rather than radial pump in the front Steve

That's right I put a tank up front too. Off of a 4240 so it was set up like the 40 series and it did not help in my case.

I have the exact same problem with a 4430 power shift which has a higher volume pump than a quad. Done the things you've done with no success. Have been working with a mom and pop hydraulic shop and they think they have a cure , but I haven't had time to get the tractor back to them. Any way they put some sort of update kit in the hydraulic valve pack on the side of the tractor under the cab. They have done several now and say it works well. A test they had me do was to take the ball and spring out of that valve marked C I believe and test it . Boy did I have good hydraulics with no chatter that way but the oil got too hot. They said that by doing that you are bypassing the oil cooler. It was only for testing purposes though.

Sounds like my 2550 which I haven't fixed yet. It has an internal high pressure leak somewhere. Works ok until the oil gets hot.

Go back to JD. Something is wrong probably with one of the pumps. Dave
