On an IH 5488, I need some info on the motor. I am getting water into the oil. Does this motor have sleeves, or a straight bore? It has never been rebuilt, but looks like it is going to have to be now.

Any thoughts on why this may be happening?

thank you.

could also be just the o-rings on the bottom of the sleeve but still not fun.

Yes it is a sleeved engine and if it does not have water filter then yep it's the sleeves now even though it may have a water filter it still could vary well be the sleeves or one other place to check before ya drag out the big wrenches is pull the valve cover as i have seen twice on the 414-466 the soft plugs in the top of the head leaking under the rockers. and then there could be the oil cooler or even and injector tube . So there is a bunch of could bee's , so pull the valve cover and the oil pan and let her drip for a couple days till all the oil stops drippen then place a big sheet of cardboard under it and pressure up the cooling system with about 15-20 lbs and start looken up .

My neighbors had one of those soft plugs give out on their 585. they didn't find it though until after they had done a lot of digging further down.
