A friend of mine was out working and came across a tractor which had an old chrysler hemi in it. I've been rather unsuccessfully trying to find out if there was actually a tractor made with one of these or if someone just crambed it in there. Anyone know?

Tractor pullers have been putting Hemis in tractors since the late 1960's-early 1970's.None ever came from the factory with one.

Theres an F-20 about 40 miles from me thats had a 426 Hemi with 2-4's in it since the very early 70's.It had 20.8x38's and used to do pretty good in the 5000 lb Modified class during the 1970's.

A few farmers probably put older 354-392 Hemis in their tractors to have a little more power for farming. They were lots cheaper than 426's.

Im pretty sure the hemis were never used in production tractors, Thats one reason I was thinkin about doin one myself, biggest problem is the one Id wanna use,the 392, was only used in cars for a cpl yrs (57-58) I think and the drag racers pretty well used up all of those years ago, might still be able to find a 331, they used those from like 51-55 I guess one would prob have to plan on spending a good buck on any of them being as how theyre all so old. I wonder if anyone whose already done one of these swaps could be tired of it by now? Havent ever seen one for sale..
Its not that Im lazy...well ok maybe it is but Im curious if anyones seen any for sale?

Chrysler was always great for supplying industrial engines ,so there were likely early 50's hemi versions. I don't know if any were installed stock in a farm tractor, but a buddy of mine fitted a 354 hemi engine out of a 56 300C in an 88 Oliver. Was not too bad a fit except for the starter. That narrow Oliver belly had no room for that big engine with a starter installed. he finally built a Chrysler starter nose with a little pillow block mounted jackshaft with a sprocket on it. A high mounted Ford starter with a sprocket on the armature shaft chain drove the drive down beside the engine. It worked. The thing really looked impressive with those big heads and valve covers hanging outside of the Oliver belly pan.

I would say that there is a real good chance that is was installed by someone other than the manufacturer. Used to be several Farmall 20s and 30s repowered with Hemis.
