Both are good working conditions. I would like to know which tractor would be better for tasks like skidding logs or bushhogging. I was told they both have equal pulling abilities and hp ratings. Not sure but please help

I was told that some of the 9Ns ddid not even have axle seals. Slope work was a no-no....

I have 300u and use it daily. Steering is a bear around the barn ( mine is non power) but otherwise the tractor is very good. I have many tractors, and this one gets used more than any except my modern McCormick :)
One thing you can"t beat is the TA if it has one. It is the best thing on a tractor. Buy the 300 if it"s in good shape. It"s a great utility tractor ( but NOT for loader work).

Well since I have had both of those tractors I can say the 300 has a lot more power, live hyds and PTO weight is a good bit more so you also have better traction. Only problem is that if the 300 doesn't have power steering they can be a bear to steer, about the only problem I have ever seen on the 300. Both are good tractors but your compareing a 9N to a much bigger tractor. Now if you have said a 601 or NAA then they would be a close match.

I agree with old, these tractors are not the same size. The 9n is much smaller and no live pto or hydraulics. The 300 is 15 years newer, 10 to 15 more hp, live hydraulics, option of live pto. The 300 should be able to do more.

OK... the 9n is 23.07 H.P at the PTO
The 300 33.89 h.p at the PTO
The 300 is ten times the tractor ,but it was made many years after the 9n. I'm not knocking the Ford ,but the 300 is a far better tractor.

Make sure the 300 U has the live PTO. More than a few don't have the live PTO.

the 300 would pull the a**hole out of the 9n. No questions asked.

9n ford vs 300 utility do'nt take this personal but i hope that was a joke. The 300 would probaly be twice the weight has live hyd-independant PTO lot more power.Maybe a little harder on fuel depends on use? Much better tractor! the only thing the 9n may? have over the 300 is maybe better brakes ?????

At the risk of starting a war here, I have never seen an earlier Ford that even had brakes. Usually the seals have puked and the drum is full of 90 weight, but then, the shoes never wear out either. On the other hand I am not a big fan of the IH disk system, it seems to work all right for a tractor that is in continuous use, but loses it when the tractor sits for long periods. The advantage I see for the IH system is that it acts on the bull pinion, giving it some gear reduction against the axle, whereas the Ford brake is directly on the axle. I have a 330U, basically a 300 with the C135 engine, and I wouldn't trade it for a 9N. Live power, live hydraulics, power steering, more weight and power. When I got it I thought I wouldn't like the fast hitch, but I have gotten used to it, and I do have a three point adaptor. I certainly wouldn't put a loader on either one, the Ford would steer hard without power steering, and I understand from other posts the the IH might soon stop steering at all.

300 has live PTO, a LOT more torque and pulling power, live hyd, and a realllly crappy steering linkage. 9N has unlimited parts, and a valve-in-block engine. If the 300 didn"t have a loader on it, that would be my choice hands down if it was a working tractor, if more for show, they haven"t made a better looking tractor than the 9N yet. Mike

Well - I like BOTH tractor! I have an 8N and always wanted the 300U. If it came right down to it, I'd get the 300.
