I have had my 9N for a year now and it has a Dearborn bucket loader and with a scraper blade. I love the tractor, it has saved me soo much work around the place. But I need help with the year. The serial # is 9 (N but looks like I) 253255. Also are the oil filters forn 9N, 8N, and 2N engines the same? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

N-series Ford serial numbers are quite a topic of study. You see all kinds of crazy things if you look long enough.

I agree with the others as to the year and model. You have a 1946 2N. All 9N and 2N serial numbers start with 9N. That's why some tractor "experts" don't even know there is such a thing as a 2N. If you still have the original front hood emblem (Ford script in an oval) look closely under the word Ford. You should see a tiny 2N stamped there.

There are a couple of possibilities regarding that N that looks like an I. Possibility 1 is that the N got stamped poorly so that only one vertical stem of the N shows. Another possibility is that the s/n guy got in a hurry and grabbed the wrong stamp. The letter I was commonly used by Ford in place of the digit 1 so both stamps would have been in his arsenal.

As I assume you already know, the 9N series came out in 1939. The 2N's came out in 1942, and I concur your serial # is that of a 1946 2N. (The 8N series started with the 1948 models.)

The same engine oil filter fits 9N, 2N, and 8N tractors, WIX 51010, or NAPA 1010, for example.

If you click on "Serial Numbers" under Research & Info on the left side of this page you'll see that your serial number is that of a late 1946 2N.
Don't know about the 9N/2N filters. If you don't get an answer here you might ask again down on the "N" board...lots of model specific expertise there.
