I realize this topic might be better suited elsewhere, but I'm not too certain where.

I have an IH 1086. The wiring was a royal mess when I got it about 10 years ago. Now it appears to have degenerated into some sort of electrical problem that runs the batteries dead nightly. It's not the alternator; that's been checked out (in particular, the diode bridge.) But we read a 4vdc drop across the battery cables with the ignition switch off. Clearly something is awry. I have a book for this tractor, but it lacks a wiring diagram. I'd like to rewire this tractor into something sane, but I like to know what I'm putting in and why. Thanks!

These batteries are new. Well, new back in June or July 2006. They shouldn't be bad yet, should they?

Allan is very good on red ones. however I would check by disconnecting the batteries and letting sit at least over night, longer preferably then check battery voltage before hooking cables back up.compare that to reading taken when batteries were first unhooked
