Got rid of that silly straight pipe.

All of a sudden, she's sounding like an IH tractor should! Plus, now I can hear myself think. :>)

You'll be hearing yourself thinking that one more red tractor would be nice. Ever notice how thinking either makes money or costs money?

YEp they sound a bunch better with the muffler , but ya need to add a littel bit more pipe to her and also a rain cap . Now if ya think that a 1066 is loud with a stright pipe Spend a week in a 4300 Transtar eagel with a three and a half Comeapart with the wick turned way up and have a 5 inch stright pipe up the side of the cab oh yea also had a jake brake on it and the other bad part was that IT WAS COLD OUTSIDE and had to run the truck at night to try and sleep . I could not get home fast enough to get to the parts store to get a new MUFFLER before i was completly deef .

Allen, make sure that the muffler is over the cab. It looks like the fresh air intake for the cab is in the front. If the exhaust is lower than the intake, then you may start loosing some brain cells with all of those fumes you could be getting. Of course, if you're not going up and down the road much and have a good head wind, then it won't be a problem most of the time. Just a little obsevation. Good luck and looks good. Red is pretty close to orange...

Looks like you can do some serious night work with that one. Now you can't complain about not enough hours in a day..... .....

That bellerin' darned thing was really drivin' me nuts! Just didn't sound like a 414 should sound; more like a Detroit Diesel.

You know, kind of an ear-piercing, painful sound? :>)

Uuuugh...don't even say Detroit diesel! It makes me cringe! I did one summer in the seat of an old GMC day-cabber that had an 8V-71 that still has a couple of my ribs loose...and that was almost ten years ago. Lucky I didn't go sterile rattling around in that seat all day too! :)

Glad to see you got a sock in the mouth of that big IH 414!

I've got a 3 inch diameter straight pipe that I built just for the fun of it. I have had it on my M and recieved several comments on how good it sounds, and I think it does sound good. Just for the fun of it again, I put that straight pipe on one of my Hs. Totally different sound, actually obnoxious noise was more what it sounded like. I wasted very little time putting the muffler back on.

Once years ago dad needed something to get the exhaust from the F-20 up over his head , and all he had that would fit qwas a piece of downspout. Kind of echoed with that on it.

I had a Year-Round cab on a 966 one time that the dealer had installed a straight pipe on when he installed the turbo. Same as this one; about a foot higher than the cab.

Hated that darned cab!

Now, I really wonder if it was the cab I was a hatin'..... ... :>)
