Hi everyone,
I’ve got an old hand start JD B that I mow about 15 acres with but now I need something else for around the house and maintaining roads and such around 55 acres. Rock retaining walls, crush rock drive way, firewood, possible snow blowing, maybe even a dirt bike coarse for the kids. The list goes on and on. I looked at several crawlers. Suspect motors and wore undercarriages have steered me towards a compact 4x4 tractor. We’re building a new home so something new is out of the question. On my way to work yesterday I saw a 1984 Kubota L305DT with a loader for sale. 30 horse. Standard shift. Belongs to an old retired shop teacher and he buys, fixes up and uses tractors in the summer and some times sells before heading south for the winter. He told me on the phone that it also has a steel cab but I didn’t see that yet. Hour meter stopped at 371 so I don’t know how many it has but there are no welds or cracks and the tires are about 75%. All painted up and sharp looking. (except for the ford fenders. ?.) He’s asking $9,000 for it. Old tractors and crawlers I can price fairly well but I’m at a loss on this. I don’t expect a screaming deal here but as long as it is ballpark I figure I can upgrade later and not lose my shirt.
Should I be interested at this price or keep looking.
Northen Maine if it matters.
Thanks, Dan.

Thanks for the input guys. I called a Kubota dealer and asked what it might be worth. He said in good shape, with a loader between 6 and 7 K. If I go with that and allow for the very well made brush guard, extra cylinder, new paint and steel cab $8,000 might not be unreasonable.
Not knowing the hours is a little unnerving tho. I’ll go look at it tomorrow and decide from there.
I might pass and see if he still has it next spring which would give me the winter to shop a little more. Thanks again. Dan.

I priced a similar Kubota recently with a hydro transmission. I t was $12,000 and the loader was about $4000. The L305 is a good Kubota and maybe for $9000 may be a good deal. I have an older 1979 L245 Kubota and it is the best tractor I have.

That is too high of a price, you can do a lot better. If your thinking about going that price I think you should look at the new compacts. Lot of deals going on now and low rates even 0%. I've had my John Deere compact for five years now. I use it year round in it hasn't given me any problems. I have a loader, back blade, mower deck, plus other small equipment and it's great plus easy on fuel. Just my two cents worth, good luck.

He is trying to fish for a lot of money and he thinks you will bite. $9,000 for a 20 year old machine..... ...For $12,000 you can get a NEW Kubota 25HP with rear 3pt. and more.

Sounds a little high to me ? You should be able to get a hydro and something newer for that.

Check out NEW ones they all have price competetive models on sale with even 0 interest.I thought I saw you were looking to spend $15,000 on a crawler ? you can get a new 30 hp compact with a loader for close to that. These little tractor will do alot of work for their size.
