When engage the PTO the battery light comes on. Is the PTO clutch drawing too much current? What is the resistance of the clutch? Is there a possible short to ground or should I be looking somewhere else?

Thank all for your help.

Check your ignition switch. I think everything goes through it . I had a 1650 cadet and had to replace 2-3 switches on it.

I have a 2182 cub cadet, its a 1996 I believe. Bought it new, battery light comes on when I engage the mower, electric PTO. but goes out when RPM go up, only on 2nd battery, I don't worry about it any more.

I'm not familiar with your tractor.. or any pecularities it may have with it's cluster.. etc.. so here is some basic advice on the charge system.. to check it out..

Check your battery voltage before you start the tractor.. record this.. should be 12.6 or so.

now start the tractor, let it run for a minute, check the voltage while running.. should be 13.8 - 14.7v .. record this.. now engage the pto and check volts again. If this number is lower than either o fthe first 2 numbers, you may have a problem in the charging system... as it may not be supplying enough charge current, or there is a large load that is drawing too many amps..

Post back with results.

Also.. does increasing rpm make the bat lamp go out?

Increasing RPM does not cause the light to go out, but after some time it will disappear. Do you think it could be a battery problem?

Could be a bat with a bad cell... Volt check intr he morning after it has been setting for a while should tell you if it is low. A specific gravity check might also identify a bad cell.

I just bought an Eicher and My charge light would come on everytime I stepped on the brakes. After searching around to find out why the rear Work light didn't work, I found that a Fuse hand Blown. I replaced the fuse, the work light works now and the Charge light doesn't come on anymore. Worth a try.
