In the book "The Ford Tractor Story part 2" by Stuart Gibbard, there is a picture of a Ford 9000 with a V8 CAT 175 hp diesel engine. It says it was part of a "power feasibality study". I looks pretty cool almost like the IH"s 1468 & 1568 with the twin stacks, but this is in 1970. Does anybody know what happened to this tractor? It would be a shame for it to have been crushed(although thats probabally what happened to it). the only identifiying marks on it are the two tone blue 9000 hood stripe and 7103 on the upper front of the hood side. This would be awesome to see at shows ans such.

Might not have really been that experimental at all. Lots of John Deere 5010 & 5020 tractors were converted to a V8 Cat engine with back mounting plate and ran in wheatland areas. Lots of them got bought later at auctions and hauled down to Mexico too. May not be many left now. The JD could handle that with the same power train in 6030 later behind a 175 HP 531 engine and some converted even later to a 619. I bet a engine that big in a Ford really stressed the thing out and nothing but scrap metal was left?

If it would do that to a Ford, what you think would happen to a D-21?!
