Cutout problem

Just had the gereator rebuilt for my '46 Case VAC. It gens OK but when I shut down the coutout sticks closed and discharges the battery. It is a new cutout. Any suggestions?

If you haven"t fiddled with it already it might be best to just exchange it (unless you"re out 40 miles from nowhere). If it"s still giving trouble, and you don"t want to exchange it, see if the points are corroded, eroded or roughened enough to keep sticking even when they"re adjusted right. You have to use the finest point file you have, be very gentle, and polish them with a piece of cloth. Be sure to file/wipe in line with the slight arc the top point describes as it closes-don"t file/wipe across the points, which is the easiest way, but leaves minor irregularities you can"t see but that may stick the points.. It"s hard and a pain, but cut-outs can be delicate.

Spring tension opens the points.Now if you hook up the cut out backward, the shunt coil will hold the points closed until the battery dies

I have adjusted the "points" in the cutout on my International. With the ignition off, adjust them so they are open, when you start it up the should close.
