We have a fleet of six class 8 dumptrucks plus some semi tractors at work. One dump truck is stopping the four way flashers when the brakes are applied. Most trucks I've seen are set up like all our others, To keep flashing even when brakes are applied. they have to be this way for stopping at RR tracks with hazardous loads etc. Ther must be a diode or something to prevent this. It's a 97 IH Navistar. Does anyone know where such a diode etc might be?

I had a new pigtail put on a tractor one day and mine done the same thing turned out 1 tiny strand of wire was touching the brake lug from the turn signial .

Also check to see if it has a trailer plug on it. Some times the two curcuits get tied together at the trailer plug connection if it has one.

It would be my guess you have a bad turn signal unit, the one with the turn lever, as all switching is done in this unit. A bad ground in the lighting system will also do this but usually applying the brakes will cause the turn signals to quit working if you have a bad ground
