Hi Gang;
This guy is making his initial run. Look at the rear of the plough bodies to see the "packers" which press down the opening furrows to make them level. He is using Kvernaland match plough.
Cheers David

Great photo! keep them coming- especally of split he is making.Even though plow is a competition plow there are plowman who will modify regular plows an give those plows competition .The end result being a very beautiful plowing job an excelent seed bed.Nebraska cowman i wish you well in starting a plow match with or without competition plows as it will be good to teach an observe what is becoming a lost art here in the USA.

Hi Cowman;
I agree 100% with you.
However ploughing matches in England have been very competive for many years, and Ransomes who were the largest plough manufacturers have constructed "match ploughs" for many years - they worked on the logic that the winning make of plough would sell them more ploughs.
I personally dont agree with the tractors used having hydraulic rams to control the left & right lower lift arms & top link; and the width adjustment.
BUT each match has several categories which cater for all types of plough, and types of bodies ie digger, general purpose & grassland.
The most important thing is there is a novice class for beginers to enter.
Also many experienced ploughmen are giving their time & expertise through the area tractor clubs for a "beginers ploughing day". They talk through & show the novices (some have never ploughed before) how to set up their ploughs & how to plough to the match rules. This gives novices a chance to learn the correct way. In fact many younger farmers who have only used reversible ploughs the chance to learn how to use conventional plough techniques.
If you send me your address via e-mail I will try to get an English Ploughing Society book of rules sent over to you. my email is:-
flatfender@arepo.com.
Glad to help if I can. Cheers David

I don't know david. Something about using a special "match" plows turns me away. I will make sure to write that into our rules. I want to see the same plows the farmer used.

Used competition ploughs at school at MacDonald college years ago as part of a class we had, very expensive, but useful if you enjoy farming & revel in what you do, quality , not quantity matter, pride in your work, sort of what I remember being taught there many years ago. It still rings home today & just look at places in Quebec & in Vermont that aspire to this, & not to mention in the picture from wales, I say Bravo! Keep up the plowing match, after all why should we not its good for image in the wake of the e.Coli break out, that we are not all agri buisness, look at it as to waht it can be used in a positive manner asside from window dressing on a troubled image, inform , educate & not let them dwell in their belief that all are in it for money & don't care about the public, true cover costs & get a profit, thats a no brainer after all are we not stweards of the land... then start acting like it AGAIN!
