ford 2000 carburetor problems

I have a 1973 model Ford 2000 gas burner with a Holley carb. When my problems started it would run with the choke closed (too lean on fuel, I think) but after completely rebuilding the carb and replacing the float it will flood even with the throttle almost completely closed. The float floats, and has been adjusted to all levels, the needle seats and stops gas flow in "off the tractor" tests, but it will only run with the throttle closed and way too rich then, barely keeping the RPM high enough to turn the crank. Giving it any throttle at all chokes it out. Suggestions?

Went through my carb 231 2 years ago, same as yours.

You say the float is adj. right and the needle/seat is working. If those are right, I'm not sure where all the extra gas is coming from.

I had very similar problems to yours, and ended up setting the float a little lower than spec. The new needle helped a lot too.
If I remember the seat is not replaceable in your carb. So a new needle will only help so much if the seat is trashed.

It chokes out when you give it throttle, thats sounds like the accelerator pump. Is it from lack of gas or too much when it chokes? Make sure the accel pump is sliding right.
