I was just wondering how the LA Case compared to the IHC W-9 or the MM GTB? Back in the 60's we used to see a lot of Case tractors in the Montana wheat country but not many W-9's. We did see few MM's and once in a while a JD but the Case seemed the to be the most popular. Did Case have a better network of dealers? Thanks

They were all about the same HP. The LA actually had a little more HP than the others. I think the GTB and LA were about the same and the W-9 and R were about the same.

Ohio you shouldn't remove all doubt like that. People will figure you out soon enough, you just removed it without letting us work at it. So now we all know.

The W-9's might not have c.i. but they had more horsepower at about 50 and bigger bore kit added more. Also the 9's came out in 39 or40 and the R's not until '49! Then the R's started breaking cranks and at 34/43 Hp .

Lots more W-9's and WD-9's in western Kansas. Some LA's and later a few 80's, 820's and 830's. Very few MM's. Dad ran a WR-9 from '48 until nearly '80. I have it here in Iowa. Look in Tractor Photo's at left, search for rice and look for the 1947 WR-9.

In the Texas Panhandle the JD R killed the W9 and WD9 sales due to fuel economy. A look behind the John Deere dealership in the 50"s showed a lot full of W9s traded in. There wasn"t a close Case or MM dealership so they weren"t too well represented. Just red and green.

You pretty well named them here in NE Colo. Except it was the WD9- the diesel. Started out most people had a M&M U then on to the bigger ones. The M&M GIV pretty well took over. Most had bigger blocks put in and the pumps turned up. Some added extra air cleaner by adding a connection to the intake manifold. Case La had a reputation of burning too much gas-Mine did not. Don't think the reputation was deserved. Fellow put in over bore sleeves in his LA's, propane heads ( with two head gasket) had a propane injector along with the gasoline, rapped them up in speed and swore they out pulled the 900 diesel. I believed him.
