Garage has limited heat, only when I am going to work or putter around I will turn furnace on. Every year about this time I must gather up all freezable material and put it in my basement on shelfs. I use lacquer thinner for some prep work on different metals and was wonder if it will hurt it to be in the cold, the coldest I have seen it in there is 28 degs. Live in Western Pa. 3 miles from W.Va. and the Ohio river. Thanks for all and any replies. Don c

I'm sure you weren't looking for an education on laquer thinner. The answer to your question is NO,it won't.

I used lacquer thinner on the job for 40+ years. It is dangerous to store it too long in metal containers as they will rust out and spring a leak.Take that into consideration when picking a storage place for it even in warm weather.

Don't worry about laquer or enamel thinner/ reducer, mineral spirits, etc. about cold weather.! Do put any liquid paints in the warm areas for winter! Any carb cleaners, engine cleaners, wd-40, penetrating oils, aren't affected by cold weather. gasoline should be treated with Sta-bil for winter use/ storage, but the vote is still out on that. Some say "yes-use it." Others say "No, don't use it!" Being an independent cuss, i use it, and everything starts right up in spring!

Won't hurt thinner a bit. Don't even keep that stuff in the same building if you use open flame heat, though it won't hardly freeze, it has a lower flash point than gasoline.

Back in 1967-1971 I worked for the NCR Corp. We had a spray bouth with a dial on the sprayer that said solvent, or lacquer thinner. The oil we used on cash registers would turn to varnish after years of using it. The bouth had a big exhaust fan. I was using lacquer thinner one time and I got on one heck on a high, be careful using it.
