Was a year ago tonight that my heart stopped and was the strangest feeling I've ever had. Had 3 of these little episodes at home and then rushed to the hospital and emergency surgery to put in the pacemaker. One spell was 43 seconds I'm told and am telling the honest truth here that I was in the TUNNEL and did see the bright light. No voices or faces but the light was too bright to look at. Wife said I was turning blue and went completely limp and the monitor went flat line so every body was running around trying to get the SCHOCK on me, but then my heart started again. Had lots of small spells after that and in intensive care for 3 days, but am here and coming back stronger all the time and I AM GRATEFUL for life and the support and prayers and the great Physician. And the joy I get from listening to the people on these forums. Thanks to all. Don't take today for granted cause you never know when its your time. Migraine

Migraine, Im glad you're here and all you other guys with a similar story. It's been five months since I was down on the ground by the barn door, my neighbours drove in in time to see me fall, help was quick. I'm now a stroke survivor. The grandkids are more important than a tractor, time with my friends takes precedent over jobs around the place, my wife and I spend more time together, weekends at the cottage, money isn't as important as health...and I always say "You never see a Brink's truck following a hearse to the cemetery"...Take care everyone and get your blood pressure checked...Mike in Exeter Ontario

That's a great site JR. Sampson's story reminds me of Cowman's Alice book. You know we're too close to our metal when we name our tractors. Mine are named too and the wife says that's because tractors are people too. Harley

Seems all of us that have had a brush with bad health have a little differant outlook on life than what we had before.

I too had a close one a year ago.

Glad to find this place during recovery and enjoy the company.

Life is to short to worry about the little things.

15 months later and glad to be alive as well.

Gary

Migraine, Glad your still still with us. No matter what our age now, from newborne to 100+, life (as we know it) is short. We need to make an effort to make the most of each day and enjoy the ones around us we love the most. Just went through major back surgery on 19 June and believe me, I have lots of time to set back and relax, and contemplate what we should really hold dear. Life's too short to place our goal on the wrong things. God Bless. Bob Da. (La)

It has taken a lot of years but I'm beginning to see that life has a purpose outside ourselves. There is a reason for each day we recieve. I remember the line from an old cowboy poem, "The dyin' is easy, it's the livin' that's hard"
And then my favorite, "Dying would be a great adventure, but living would be an even greater adventure"

Yes, that tunnel is really there, as i found out, back in WW II, lying severly wounded in a foxhole, in northern France, near Metz! Found next morning by medics, almost dead from loss of blood, and the wounds! After a year of recovery, made it home minus a foot, but much smarter! (No, i wouldn't want to go thru that again, even to get smarter!) But, yes, the tunnel is really there! Rusty Jones

Cool, I believe it is there and am looking forward to it. But until then the old iron is an enjoyable distraction. And Rustyj,thank-you for your service.
