A while back you mentioned a friend selling stones. Do you know who was buying them? I'm clearing a few acres and have 30 to 40 ton set up for sale. I need to sell it in this quantity for space reasons. I have 300+ tons to set up, wall stone, veneer, steppers and stair stones. I'm in Monson, MA on the Stafford Springs, CT line. have lots of pics.
Any info helps
Thanks
Gary

They steal them and sell them around here in central New York - stacked fieldstone, that is. Traditinally, in central and northern New York farmers picked stone after plowing and either built walls - or - made piles. If you look in the Northeast edition of Country Folks farm newspaper - there are usually companies advertising to buy clean farm field-stone.

Ah, ya jogged my memory which friend I had who sold stones!

Well, boulders...

One of my friends & neighbors is an old farmer. He's built a good business salvaging old houses and selling restoration supplies.

From those contacts...he digs up boulders from a landfill where he helped his father dump them in the 1940s when they finally got equipment big enough to move them out of the fields. Sells them down into Fairfield County (The Gold Coast) to be put on lawns.

Tree farm on the other side of me routinely digs up their fields to harvest the particularly nice "Brooklyn Flat Stone" this part of town is known for. Plant more christmas trees, in 10 or 15 years when they're all sold off...dig up the field again before the next crop goes in.

Oh yes the rocks of New England, I think thats half the reason I moved to Iowa, that and the abundance of people, although most of them have plenty of $$ and part with pretty easily. I can remember going to Dayville to pick up milk bottles for our dairy..,,just thought I would chime in...Jim

At the glass bottle plant there by chance? Probably was Knox Glass back then...

For what it's worth...after being closed for near 5+ years, it's now been leveled as is being turned into a big-box mall...

I don't.

I would give these guys a call...

Sansoucy Quarry has one it's real quarries in my town, and they have a yard / sales office in Dayville next to me:

I'm assuming this is the same outfit or at least family, though I didn't realize they had a Worcester office...

Monson, Holy cats! My family settled there in the 1600s. Do you know Jim Haynes? He and his wife found some of the old family garves and mailed me pictures. I'd love to get back and visit the area sometime. Someting about Rattlesnake Mtn haunts me!
