Huh. Interesting....I was at a horse ranch dispersal auction last month...couple of decent, but nothing special 300-400cc Yamaha? 4-wheelers, both brought upwards of $3000. Probably 6-10 years old, and looked like they had seen some heavy use - pulling small utility trailers and the like.

I couldn't believe how much they brought!

Around here the majority of those are used on farms and for hunting. They have to be 4 wheel drive, able to go through water up to the seat, have a winch and even a 2" hitch or they aren't worth much. Some of the machines use a belt drive and when it gets wet it slips and is totally useless. The dealers sell last year models at a deep discount so it means any other used vehicles must also be deep discounted as well. The kids models and the racing machines are not in very much demand.

I have two Arctic Cats. One new this year, one last year. The reason I didn't buy used is because by their very nature, ATVs are meant to be abused. I don't mean to say all do, but a lot of people do.

You can list it on ArcticChat for free, but you do need to register. There are over 10,000 Arctic Cat enthusiats there.

I have a 3 year old Polaris Sportsman. I paid $6,700 for it with a snow blade. I doubt I could get more than $3500 for it now. I think that 4 wheelers dont bring good resale value because it is really a "toy" that guys get rough with and a 4wheeler is not real robust as a tractor.

I had the same problem selling my last couple of vehicles. My car I traded in - couldn't even get a bite. My truck, only lowball offers - after 8 months finally sold it to a guy I work with. For a lot less than blue book. Around here, dealers have really taken over the used car market. They offer financing, and a warrantry. The warranty is really important to a lot of used car buyers. If you are going to sell a car now by yourself, It should be near new, or a junker. Anything inbetween, just doesn't move.

The price of new ATV's has been climbing continuously, they're $6,000-$9,500 for a 4wd utility machine now. I went to a fair just a week or so ago, and all the snowmobile/atv/motorcycle dealers had these super low payment plans all figgured out and stuck on big tags on the machines, it was financing offered through the manufacturers, but the payment plans they had were almost rediculous on everything, I remember looking at one of the atv tags in particular, it was around an $8,000 big bore 4wd utility machine, but they offered a payment plan of $60 a month on it, like I said to the couple running the booth "you'd be paying on it forever", and they instantly agreed, oh, and the payments may have been low, but it was 8.99% interest, which was super hefty. I left there feeling the manufacturers must be pretty desperate to allow give folks that long to pay them back, although with 8.99% interest, they'd be making some money, problably just about pay for it twice if you only paid the minimum payments right along. I also noticed hardly anybody was looking at them either, even with those oversized tags on them with the lowball payments. I think things are going to get better before too long, the price of fuel has come down some.

Seems not much of anything is selling right now, unles you are giving it away and even tehn it takes a while.
The economy is not as robust as they would have us believe.

Lots of leftovers available from most manufacturers along with incentives. Biggest thing is to check your asking price. Go to Kelley Blue book. Get the retail value and trade-in value and shoot for the middle. I've done this for years and haven't gone wrong yet. It's the same information the buyer should be arming himself with so you'll likely be on the same page. If you are asking too much they won't even look.

Seems like most folks dont have much discretionary income left right now after buying gas to get to work and what they have they are hanging on to. With that said, I bought my last 2 off ebay, really the only place I look anymore.
