I'm getting ready to drill some rye. How much fertilizer should I apply to the acre at planting time.

Depends what your soil specs are like. I'll assume you don't have it tested.

I'd go light with fert unless your soil is _very_ worn out. likes to get thick & fall over if you go too heavy.

To be honest, we've never put down any kind of fertilizer with any crop other than corn. We did rye 2 years ago and chopped it last summer, it was THICK. (ok, so it was an old cow pasture)

Most guys that I see may spray it in the spring, but I wouldn't worry about it. For what fertilizer costs, it just aint worth it.
