61 year old lifelong farmer, recently retired. He died of intestinal cancer. Never smoked, drank, etc. Will really miss him, he was a good friend and neighbor. It was sad to see the disease eat him up, and near the end he just wanted it to be over. He was never in much pain due to painkillers given, but still was uncomfortable. He asked me to be a pall bearer before he passed, so I was honored to take part in that way. Think I'll plant a nice Oak (his favorite tree) in his honor.
I guess his family will have to sell off all his tractors and stuff....he stopped farming about 5 years ago but still has a few tractors, hay wagons, etc etc.

Always tough to lose a good friend. The good memories have no expiration date.

See this is what i mean. My dad is 65, he will be retiring from General Motors with 40 years vested. His big problem now is getting him off the couch. I yell, swear to get him to get his work done. He has gotten lazier in the past 3 years. My mom say he thinks im picking on him. NO! I want him to get in a routine of being active. What do you think will happen when he retires in December? I cant see the big deal, get the work done, do a good job of it and you will live long.

Your dad may have depression. Describe it to a health care professional. It can be treated so no need to suffer with it.

A good person passing away relatively early in life, unfortunately happens more often than we might imagine. Personally, this is why I strongly recommend getting off the life's "tread mill" as soon as possible and pursue whatever you enjoy. Many employees where I recently worked, continue to chase the almightly dollar although they already possess enough to last several lifetimes. I followed my own advice, at 55 got out, and now doing whatever pleases. Even if it occasionally means "wasting" time on Ag forums. Been told I could come back and review service literature (probably written overseas) for $35/hour. No thanks.

Always hard to lose a friend, takes a long time before you get used to them not being around anymore. Remember the good times you had with him, it'll help you get through it.
