Well, after a nice Saturday of traveling across Missouri and picking up my new tractor project and then heading back home and staying overnight in Columbia. That was the good part. Got up Sunday and started home. Hit a very severe storm outside of Sweet Springs when a car Eastbound on I70 hydroplaned and came across the median and struck us. Trailer was ripped away from Suburban and even broke the safety chains. Truck and trailer are totaled, but most importantly everyone is okay and second most importantly tractor survived, didn't even come unchained. I will try to post pics if can.

Glad you all are OK! Sounds like a good testament to chaining tractors down properly if after the wreck the tractor was still on the trailer. Larry

I am of the belief, "drive the biggest vehicle you can afford". In 2000 on a sunny afternoon while driving a dark red plymouth grand voager mini-van, my children and I were struck head on at 55mph by a neighbor driving a Jeep Wrangler. 1 hour and twenty minutes to cut me out of the car. I now have metal rod in leg, metal plates in my arm and total metal face reconstruction. The only thing I could have done differently is drive a bigger car. Wife now drives fire-engine red suburban and I drive a four door Chevy truck. On the outside I look perfect but on the inside I am a mess....old age will be a painful life for me.

The price of gas is just part of living my rural lifestyle. I commute 50 miles a day to the big city so every evening I can "retire" to my farm in the country. I will not downsize no matter what the cost is.

I don't know why I can't get photos to upload on here. If you go to photobucket.com and search mazdmec1 you will see all of the pictures.

If you look in some of the pictures on photobucket.com you can see we rented a Uhaul van and trailer. That is how we got the tractor er I mean the "Lumina" home (just in case any Uhaul employees are looking)lol. I do agree that the bigger trucks are safer although the Nissan was traveling faster and I believe he took a lot of the force. We just got hit twice, one from him and the other from the trailer. I am just thankful that everyone walked away basically from this wreck. My wife went to the hospital but was released a few hours after the wreck. I would guess that the driver of the Nissan was doing 70 mph or faster, I had slowed down to 55 due to the heavy rain and poor visibility. I hated to see that Suburban go. It rode well, got terrific gas mileage for a large vehicle, and was one of the best overall vehicles as far as exterior and drivetrain. I'm gonna miss her.

That suburban may have sucked gas, but I'm convinced that driving a full sized vehical with a full frame will save your life. No governement crash test simulates what your veihical when through.
