I don't know how it is everywhere, but there seems to be a great market for people buying medium to smaller equipment, especially combines, here in northern Indiana and selling them east or south. If you live in one of these areas of the nation, find a farm paper or journal from the midwest and look at the prices. Some people are amazed. They practically give away 00 series JD combines and the other brands are cheaper. If you want a good older machine it may be worth the look. Too bad shipping sometimes costs more than the machine now a days.

Back a few years ago, big combines were going out to Texas. 4020's sell for 8 - 12,000 at auctions here, seems the worse shape the higher they sell for. Grain trucks sell for around $1500. Most sales we have aren't absolute. Big farmalls 966.1066 and the likes are $5000 to $7500. JD 4240 -4840 between $13,000 - $20,000.

Well I can't speak for the accuracy of the gossip here, but I've heard (at the local gas station in the morning over coffee) that much of the equipment at sales in my area are bought up by a local trucking company. The gossip states that if the paint looks okay and it goes for a decent price here, the truckers haul it down south and resell it, recouping all the costs and turning a handsome profit (sometimes double or triple the auction+trucking costs.) Names were mentioned of course, but they'd be useless here.
