I got a 94 F50 recently and it ran good for about a week but now it has no get up and go. I can get up to around 30 mph like normal but then it takes like a minute and a half to get to 55mph . It revs great when in park or nuetral.I test drove a truck with the same problem and the owner said something about a vaccume hose pump? I am 16 and this is my first truck what do you think the problem is. Is this a common problem with these trucks. Can I fix this problem. How much do you think it would cost. It is a 1994 F250 351 regular cab 4X4 6 inch lift. sorry if I posted this twice my computer is messed up now. Thanks,Zach

Re; trouble scans, most auto parts stores will not have the equipment needed to scan pre-1996 vehicles.

I recommend that you go to the "general automotive" problem forum at

www.freeautoadvice.com

and ask about this problem and how to read codes on that vehicle.

A few weeks ago someone over there told me how to read codes on a 93' Taurus simply by jumping two plug terminals under the hood, and reading the codes by the flashing of the "check engine" light.

It might be similar with your truck. If you have not luck getting a similar method for you truck, let me know and I will try to find the link to the Taurus info for you.

Good luck

Catylitic Converter? Ceramic Element sometimes breaks and closes off the exhaust exit. Mine did[460].I broke the element up, run the engine to blow the pieces out of the converter and it runs good and passes Emissions test ok.

I had a fuel pump regulator go out one time on my F250 (with 351) - the symptoms weren"t exactly as you describe, but it was close.

It was actually a recall item that they fixed for free...

Well my F250 is substantially older, but the two biggest things that cause me headaches with it are: 1. Moisture under the distributor cap or on the wires 2. Ignition control module (big silver box, filled with epoxy with a couple plugs and about 20 wires) sometimes goes out. We carry a couple spares onboard.

Sure sounds like a fuel delivery problem. My dad"s Ford truck did the same thing.Turned out to be a broken spring in the fuel pump, wasnt getting enough fuel up to the carb. Check the fuel pressure, is my guess.

Zach,
This will be an OBD1 series system. Check if your local auto parts store will run a code check on it. May show a problem. Yeah, I know, the "check" light may/may not be on,(you didn"t say). A scan will be worth the effort. Good Luck jackie
