I have an early 40's 9N. Now, as I am sitting on the tractor, isn't there supposed to be a dipstick coming out of the side of the tractor (through that plate) below my right foot? My I&T Manual shows one, but my tractor does not have one. If it isn't (or is) supposed to be there, how in the heck am I supoosed to check the fluid level? This tractor thing is new to me, and I need all the help I can get (obviously). All replies appreciated!

For got to add(brain fade/crs). Your 'early 9N' might still have the dipstick on the transmission cover by the shift lever. Mine does. 9N25120 I DO have an 'extra' cover with a dipstick around here somewhere if you absolutely gotta have one.

Miss Kelly,

old art is exactly correct. Remove the bottom bolt and fill until it 'dribbles'. This only puts 4 1/2 gallons of fluid in BUT, this IS enough to run your hydraulics AND lubricate/cool all of the moving parts in the 3 sumps. Many owners put the ENTIRE 5 gallons in (as specified in the manuals) and discover they have just ruined their brake shoes due to leaking rear/axle seals. Post on the 'N' board for more opinions on this.

to check the oil level on a 8n-9n with no dip stick remove the lowest bolt in that cover on the side if oil comes out it is not too low. if you take the cover off it shuld just run out of the large hole. the dip stick that was orignal had a hook handle on it But it would catch your pants and get pulled out and get lost new ones had the handle cut off. a big nail works good for a dip stick just file a mark in it

Post your question down in the 9,2,8N forum. Theres a bolt you can remove to check your fluid lever but I don't remember which one it is. All the N tractor I have, have the dipsticks
