I am getting ready to overhaul my oliver 1655 diesel. A local supplier carries clevite parts. Are clevite parts pretty good? I want to do a good job.
Josh

Your Oliver if it has the orignal bearing will have Clevite bearings when you tear it down. It will also have Victor gaskets which is also under the Dana label.Questions find me on the Oliver form My old supervisor also works for Clevite if you have more questions. I also have some suggestions when you tear it down. J.

Clevite used to be top of the line, I will assume they still are.

A division of TRW. Clevite 77 engine bearings are still the choice of most NASCAR engine builders. One of their other divisions is FelPro gaskets, another top brand.

Definitly you need to check the whose is whose . Sealed power aquired trw , then Federal Mogul (commonly known as federal mangle) bought sealed power , then bought Fel Pro ( all 4 lines ) and parted out what they didn't want . THEN they went after T & N ( a world wide company based in england ) which at the time owned clevite and
McCord gaskets ( a much better gasket line than
fel pro) . After aquiring T & N uncle sam told them they had to sell the clevite bearing line as
that would have been a monopoly .They closed the
McCord gasket line and sold the clevite line to
Dana corp . FM either screwed up or ruined much of the aftermarket industry , Thank them for many of the parts for older tractors that you can no
longer get.

Clevite had been separate from trw for many years , I'm not sure how many so I'll leave it
open rather than be wrong .

You need to get updated. Clevite engine parts are a division of Dana not TRW, and have not been TRW for a few years.

a 440 Chrysler rebuild story in the curret issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines mag says Clevite 77s are the bearing of choice for building hot/racing engines because they are a bit on the soft side, and can take a lot of abuse on a high revving and/or torquey engine. An excellent product, I try to use them on whatever I am rebuilding, tractor or not.....
