I finally decided to insulate and sheet the inside of my shop. I am thinking of using 5/8 flame check but my son thinks that white sheet metal would be better. I only heat it when I am in it so I was wondering what you fellows have experenced and which material would heat the best.

Around here most people go to the sheet metal and we have it also. 18 inchs of blown in insulation in the ceiling. Very easy to heat, Walls are also insulated and have sheet metal on them Helps with visiability on cloudy days too.

When I built mine I drywalled the inside over 2x4's run horizontally. Then blew the whole cavity with cellulose. Works great. No drafts, heats easy. Put white steel on the ceiling and blew 12" of cellulose on top of it. Gus

General contractor here. I've done both in the past year and the drywall was the cheaper solution.

I would check with the building code, I am pretty sure that 5/8 drywall is code for a firewall. Not sure about sheet metal. Where in Cent. Mich. are you at? I am about 15 miles from Flint.
