Spra Coupe?

Hi, There was a sale in Carroll today. Lots of machinery sold, but we went intending to buy a Massey 550 combine. It went for $1100. A 510 went for $400. But right beside the 510 massey was something called a "Spra-Coupe". 200 gallon tank, electric jacks controlling the boom, 3 wheels, VW engine. Looking at pictures online, it looks like a 216 or 220 model, though the engine side covers are missing so I couldn't identify it there. I bought it for $1000. I'm thinking of going to pick it up tomorrow, but I was wondering if anyone here had used such a machine, what I should watch out for, and so on as I check it over. I know there are some hoses that look pretty bad on it and right now the drive shafts have been removed (for towing, as I understand) but I don't know much else about it. If I can make it work at all, it'll be a huge step up from the 200 gallon tank, pto spray pump, and homemade 11-row boom assembly I weld into my 560's loader bucket. At last, hopefully I'll quit having to get soaked in Roundup!

I had a 3wheel 220 for sereral years I really liked it other then the small tank I sprayed @ 12 gal per A worked great other then having to fill tank real regular. traded for a wilmar 750 with 500 gal tank Only thing if you get stuck pull our with chain on both sides of frount wheel on the extruded pins [ without anyone in cab] as steering wheel can spin realy fast and can cause injury Best place for parts is Davis Equipment in Johnston [suburb north of Merle hay rd in Des MoinesTPIA

WE have a 220 with electric jacks, foam marker and Raven monitor... 89 model, It sure is nice compared to the old set up, There is always something to fix on anything, and your Spra coupe will be no different. I spray at 15 gpa, and that figures to 13.3 acres per load, at 8 or 9 mph, looks like you got a steal! Play with it this fall and get it ready for winter so nothing freezes up in there....

Could be a 220----- with electric lifts would make it a 1991 or older.I have a 1992 220 that I bought in 1994.Its made the business of spraying enjoyable and you got the right one in my opinion. The 3 wheeler rides a lot nicer that a 4 wheeler.Sounds like you got a bargain.
Be sure to open the power steering valve if so equipped before towing the coupe or the first turn will blow something out in the steering. The valve is located next to the front step.Put 2 or 3 gallons of RV antifreeze through system before cold weather. I would replace all the spray boom hoses before using it.The hose isn't very expensive and should last 10 years if replaced with new hose.Mounting a dimmer switch on the left side of the floorboard and hooking in series with the pump switch on the dash makes it a lot easier for the operator.

The local farm center uses two of 'em to spray crops with. They've been using them for several years. I see them being towed all over the county. Given that's all the information I know, they appear to be steady, reliable units.

My neighbor has one, some hose broke inside the cab and drenched him pretty good with what ever he was spraying. Check all the hoses and replace any that look old. They have a pretty good reputation, only drawbacks I"ve heard are too small of a tank, and a bit underpowered. I wish that Massey combine was closer, just what I need. Around here they sell for up to $2000
