She looks real good! I rode many, many miles in old Plymouths in high school. My first legal car was a 48 2 door with a later Dodge 6 and overdrive added. It would go over 100mph and got in the low 20's at freeway speeds. I wish I had never let it go.....

My family also had several 49-54 Plymouths, including a 53 convert. I wish I still had that! I thought those Plymouths had the best heaters of any of the cars we ever had. I also thought the radios on the 50's were really neat.

We ran into some rust problems with a couple of them. One was really a Flintstone car--big holes in the floorboards and ended up being a parts car. But generally they held together real well.

Enjoy your Plymmie. They are a comfortable and reliable car, with even fairly decent brakes for their age. Good luck and congratulations!

WOW! What a beauty. Does it have the L-head six cylinder 190 cubic inch engine? That engine was produced from 1932 until 1959 when the Slant-Six was introduced. It was also used for industrial applications as it was almost indestructable.

In the 50's a woman would come into the Texaco gas station where I worked and have her 1953 Desoto serviced. It had a fluid clutch so it could be started from a full stop up to full speed in any gear. It had the smoothest ride of any car I have ever been in.

Does it have the smell of Mohair from the seats?

My mom's first car was a '49 Dodge. I never saw the car, it was sold about the time I was born, but I've seen photos of it and heard MANY stories. According to my mom it was the best car they ever made!

Yep, those old Mopars were good cars. My old Aunt had a '37 4 door, kept it until way after WW II! I used it when i came home from army life, on furlough! She saved her gas ration stamps for me! A friend heard i did auto body work, and he had smashed the right rear fender, on his 1947 Plymouth, bad enough to need replacing. I said i could do the whole job in one evening, so i got the job! I stopped at the local auto wreckers and bought a nice rear fender, took it home, painted it, and when it was ready, i stopped at his place of business, took his car home, installed the used fender, and had it back to him next day! Let me say--that piece of trickery made my reputation in my home town!
