The Patient: 1990 Jeep Cherokee, 6 cyl., auto overdrive.

My brother in law just picked this thing up, and he's after me to help him fix it. It won't shift out of first gear. I think its a problem with the kickdown cable, because the plastic housing on the cable won't slide completely down in to the transmission case. It was actually pulled completely out of the case, with the cable itself still hooked up. I'm wondering if something inside got bent? Does anyone have any ideas, or a good picture of the internal structure of the kickdown assembly?

Your time and assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Anthony.

Not a bad job to replace the cable in the Jeep.
Disconnect at throttle-body,remove trans pan, disengage cable from throttle-valve cam, remove bracket bolt from outside case & pull out.
Might as well install new filter & fluid at same time. ~brad
