JR, where in Ky is this? We used to raise tobacco in Midway, ky, just wondering if you were anywhere near there. We ended up selling out because there wasn't enough money in it to support it. I really enjoyed tobacco harvest time. It sure is a pretty crop from day one, and a lot of man hours involved in it. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

These pictures were taken about 4 miles south of Cynthiana..I would say there is 75 to 100 acres in this one field..You used to see it on every farm but now not as much grown here..The sticks are just plain old tobacco sticks that you hank across the t-rails..so many people quit raising tobacco that sticks are dirt cheap now .lots of people will give them away to get them out of their barns. Last crop I raised was in 1971..I am now 65 years old..cutting and housing tobacco was hard work back then and still is...I still have my tobacco knife and speer and my fathers also..they was both just alike...a good cutter good cut 2000 to 25oo a day back in my time..

Are you using the old flue cured tobacco sticks to stick them up. Long time ago when the the farmers here were going from sticks to bulk curing barnes, they would sell their sticks to the burley farmers. I still have a few left. Good pictures.

Lots of work there.....you sure bring back a lot of memories.....

My uncle Harvey grew a fair amount of tobacco on a farm near lewisport, just a bit south of Owensboro....

Kept a home grown chew in his mouth well into his eighties....

He also grew hemp during the war.....

Nice crop!
