Rock River Thresheree... Mechanical problem detours the tractor parade.

The steady parade of hundreds of vintage tractors suddenly stopped after a steam tractors front wheels broke off.

Minutes later the parade continued...
But the broken giant wasn’t moving anywhere.

I was up there yesterday and saw that sitting there. Seemed like it attracted more viewers than the rest of the show! That JD shovel was pretty neat, too. I bet there aren't too many of those around.

Thanks for the pics!

What is this:

The picture caption on the bigger version says plow, but doesn't look like one to me!

Some kind of a truck loader? A shovel to dig into a bank?

That is John Deere's first loader. Yep it was on the back of the tractor.

Too bad about the old steam tractor break down. Your pictures are good, I like all old tractors.

From what little I know about steam the engineer must have been on the ball and got the fire dumped. Looks like the crown sheet was probably exposed. Recipe for a major disaster.

I might be off base on this as I know just enough about steam to be dangerous.

On another note I remember a neighbor telling about when he was a kid seeing a steamer do a quick reverse for some reason. Front axle came out of the support. Spent the rest of the day fixing.
