I know it is a little late to be asking questions tonight but if any of you experianced farmers can help me out I would be gratefull.

I have a common bermuda floor in my pecan orchard and it is very well established. However, when I have to mow it the ride is awfully bumpy because of several soil depressions caused by not so perfect backfill for the irrigation piping throughout the pasture. You cannot walk the pasture and see these darn depressions but you can sure feel them on the Massey! Here is the challange I am faced with.
I don't want to destroy the pasture by disking and raking if it is at all possible but is there any way to smooth it out besides trying to fill the depressions with more soil? I have tried this to a great extent but did'nt even make a dent in smoothing out the ride.
I know that farmers have a natural engineering ability to solve problems and hoping that you would share any ideas.

Thanks in advance.

Bumpity Bump Bump, WHEW!!!

Is it possible to let a little air out of the tires so it will ride better?

You said that you had bermuda grass in the pasture, it has been my experience with common bermuda, you can"t kill the stuff, in fact, it likes the stirring up. IN the spring while the ground temp is below 80, just disc the pasture and pull a drag over it. It will help level the bumps and holes. Then when the ground temp reaches high 80s, look out here comes the bermuda grass.
Good Luck.....

What we normally do is disc twice and the drag. The stolens from the common bermuda will still come back. You could also seed in some brown top millet to help hold the soil from eroision and either graze or bale the millet.
