Anyone have experience with the 790 utility tractor. Have been looking at them, and my friend just bought one w/loader. We want one that both my wife and I can use. She mows the yard and works with the land scaping, wheras I work mainly in the woods cutting firewood and clearing brush.

We have one. It is a very handy little tractor but I don't think it is really built for bull work. We have used it to rake hay, run the hay tedder, run 8"x61' grain auger, pull hay wagons, also use it in our small veggie operation with a 5' roto-tiller, 3pt. sprayer, cultivator and a 3pt. 2 row planter. It will run all weak on a tank of fuel!

I have a 770 ( same tractor less HP ) and it has about 700 trouble free hours on her. I used mine to pull a 5' bush hog, pull out logs with turf tires. I pulled out a 12" wide by 10 foot long cherry tree last year and she didn't slow down a wink. Still use it too mow grass and move dirt. The tractor looks small and is no frills but with the right tires you can do alot more with it than you would think you can.It was my all around tractor until I got my bigger tractor back together.

As the key with any diesel, keep the oil changed, give it good clean fuel, clean your ail filter and changed you fuel filter every 100 hours or so and it will run trouble free for along time. Yanmar has been building that tractor for JD along time and I have never heard of anyone having prolems with one.

Thanks for your replies. I am trying to decide between the 2000 series tractors (2320&2520)and the 790. Just found out that the R4 tires are not compatible with the mid mount mower, only turf tires with a belly mower. As I will be working mostly in my woods (all 20 acres I own are wooded) maybe the turf tires will be less aggresive and cause less destruction while pulling my firewood trailer. I have six two cylinders for the heavy work, but they are not well suited for the woods most of the year.
