I have a MF 30B LDR which I belive to have a Perkins AD3-152 diesel engine in it. I have an oil leak on the back of the engine where the tach cable connects to the engine. When I removed the little aluminum plate bolted to the engine I could see the oil leaking from a hole that was drilled through the plate at an upward angle. Is this hole supposed to be there? it looks factory drilled, if it is do I have a seal internally gone bad to cause the leak? if is not supposed to be there can I just plug it?

Yeah, just plug it - and then you will prolly find the tacho head fills up with the oil that didn"t leak outa that hole, that is if the drive cable survives and doesn"t ruin the outer sheath first.

There is an oil seal in that plate and a gasket between the plate and the block. At least that's what shows in the parts book for my MF-135 that covers a generation newer Perkins. You may also need to Tachometer drive connector because that's what the oil seal seals on and if its too worn a new seal won't seal either.

There is a seal in the aluminiun housing, the hole is there to let the oil out rather than let it go up your thaco cable and fill the thaco up with oil when the seal fails.
