The mpg, compass, temp.display that is over the rearview mirrior on my 99 f350 stopped working wednesday. Today the truck seemed harder to start than usual, but it ran fine. I checked the fuses but didnt see any out. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. You guys could make a fortune if you were to charge for all this info.

A neighbor with a '99 F-250 ahd a similar problem.

It would blow a small fuse in the under-dash fuseblock ahead of the driver's knee, and, amongst the other gauge stuff, the glowplugs wouldn't work, making for hard starting.

The dealer said they traced it to bad wires in the steering column/ignition switch area.

Now, the fuse no longer blows, but sometimes the heater fan doesn't "power down" when the key is turned "off", and kills the battery.

They are tired of it, and want to "dump" it.
