I have a Mack with a GVWR of 26,000. It has an 18ft. flatbed and single axle w/ air over hydraulic brakes.
I am looking at getting a 26,000 GVWR Pintal trailer to move equipment.
Will this comdo let me move a 30,000lb. dozer?
Do the weights combine or how does it work?
Brian

The man who was talking about the empty weight of truck and trailer versus the loaded weight I think was on the right track. I have a tandem axle Ford LN 9000 and a old folding neck trailer I haul a small dragline and trackhoe on. My truck and trailer weigh 30,000 lbs. EMPTY. I think a 30,000 lb. dozer would be a pretty good load for you, plus, I think you would have a little trouble stopping.

The answer is simple -- GVW is the allowed weight of the cargo AND the trailer. So no, you cannot use a 26000 GVW trailer to move a 30000 lb dozer. I do not know if your truck is capable of pulling that kind of load, as I know nothing beyond 1 ton pickups.

A truck has 3 weight ratings you need to be concerned with.
Per axle weight
This is a weight you can have 1 axle weight when loaded.
GVWR
This is the gross weight your truck can weigh without a trailer.
GCWR
This is the gross weight of the truck; trailer; and load. (YOU DO NOT ADD THE 2 GVWR'S FOR THIS)

A trailer will have 2 weights. Per axle and GVWR.

Just because you can hook a trailer to the truck does not mean you can pull it and stop it loaded.

So get the GCWR of your truck.
Weigh the truck and trailer empty and subtract from the GCWR. This will tell you what the truck will haul on a trailer.
Next get the GVWR of the trailer.
Weigh the trailer empty and subtract from the trailer GVWR. This will tell you what the trailer will haul.

So to answer your question.
Does not matter what truck you have.
Your 26,000 GVWR trailer has a payload of about 22,000 lbs most likely so you can NOT haul a 30,000 lb dozer on it.

A truck with a trailer falls into the gross combined weight rating,so the truck and the trailer will then have a GCWR of 52,000#. But, and this is where a lot of folks make mistakes, you also need to know the actual weight of the empty truck, as well as the actual weight of the empty trailer. Add these two weights together, and then subtract from the 52,000. Then and only then will know how much weight you can haul on the trailer. My guess is that the truck and trailer will be overloaded with the 30,000# dozer.
