Every Jan. I get a notice from the DMV that my old [89] Ford F250 has to have an Emissions test and it will not pass the Hydrocarbons at Idle Test unless I:
Replace spark Plugs,Change Oil and filter, Change air cleaner filter.
Run tank near empty.
Put 5 Gals of Hi test Gas in it.
Put 2 bottles of Walgreens 70% Rubbing Alchol in it.
Drive it for about 5 Miles. Cross my fingers' Take test. It will usually slide by then. The old gal has 215,867 Miles on it and will still pull our 35' Jayco 5th wheel to Elephant Butte Lake in N.M. where I fully forget all this Emissions Baloney while trying to drown a Fishing Worm. Sometimes I feel sorry for the Worm. Oh well.

Maybe twice a year I will add a bottle of rubbing alcohol in my gas tank to dissolve any water that maybe in the tank. On my diesels I use treat the tank in the fall with power service and once in May to get rid of any water. But my chainsaw gas gets stabil because the gas / oil mixture deteriorates pretty fast.

You may be wasting money buying alcohol since mostgas has a 10% mix to start with

Use pure alcohol, rubbing alcohol usually contains water. Check the label most rubbing alcohol bottles will say 70% alcohol,30% water.
also use isopropyl alcohol instead of methanol which is very corrosive.

The only thing that get and addative is the diesels and they get a shot of Lucas , as for the gassers just the gas but we all run the better grade . But they get run everyday even if it is only to grind some feed or unload a 1000 # of feed . When winter comes the diesels are parked and everything falls on the gassers.

I use an additive for valves for 20 some years and haven't determined that any damage has been done so far. Makes me feel good that at least I try. One qt. treats 320 gallons or so.

99% of the thing you can add do nothing for the engine. 1 thing they do is waste your money if/when you buy them. these old tractor where made to run on some pretty poor gas and have been doing so for many years. Now I do put in a little oil or tranny fluid a few times a year just to help lube the upper parts of the engine but I only do that about 2 times a year and thats when I fill my 40 gallion fuel tank and then all the tractor get the stuff

My "toys" sit and do not get used much, so I put Sea Foam additive is everything as a stabilizer. These old girls will burn the old gas pretty good, but with the stabilizer it makes them a little easier to start after a long sit time.

"Seafoam" was the name I was trying to remember. Some think it better than Stabil and you're apparently one of them. Any comments?

I use Mag 1 Lead Substitute from Advance Auto Parts (I believe it's a "Gunk" product relabeled for Advance).

And a shot (1 oz) of Marvel about once a month.

old gas burners!!!!!, you sound like my wife

as I tell her way too often, these are hard working pieces of productive equipment, fed lovingly with old gas out of rusty cans, additives not needed

Marvel Mystery Oil, You can even add a bit to oil. Directions are on the bottle. Excellent stuff, and is Avaiable at most Auto parts and farm supply stores.

When I change the oil in my 966, I put in a can of motor flush about 30 minutes before I change the oil. I know this tractor had only 150 hours put on it in the last 15 years before I got it and the engine probably had a lot of varnish and sludge in it from only occasional use.
