Hi Gents,

I am showing this off just because I just re-learned how to post pictures (I hope) and I am just getting started on getting this neat little compressor started.

It is a DeVilbiss compressor, B&S Model B motor manufacured in 1937, and very complete, including most of the original paint (all except the compressor itself).

There is no spark, I am hoping to fix that fairly easily. The compressor is in good working order, I can build preassure the tank with the hand crank, and it holds most of the preassure overnight.

One thing it is missing is an intake filter for the compressor. If anyone has any ideas about finding a new one that has a vintage look, I'd apprieciate it.

Tim

The compressor itself is a DeVilbiss Model 225. Same as yours? Any idea how much younger is your compressor?

I called DeVilbiss, was refered to DEVAIR in Ontario. The only info they had was a parts list (which they faxed to me). Of course, they don't have any of the parts though.

What did you do with the Clinton engine? You may be able to get an idea as to how old it is if you can find info for the engine based on the serial No.

Wow what an old bugger! Guess that is why I have 45 chainsaws going back to 1948. Find a compressor shop that has EMGLO parts. They are now called Jenney. You want the older pancake type of filter. It takes a paper Brigs air filter element. Paint it what color you want. They are all metal so it will look good. Jeffcat

Great little setup. I'm partial to the old Briggs and Strattons. Nice, big wheels for easy rolling too.

How much heat is created at the compressor head? You don't mention thread size. How about a pancake muffler or a small tractor water trap filled with foam filter material. Painted BBQ black either one should not look too out of place.

Nice unit! Be careful about building up too much pressure in a tank that old. There's probably been a good deal of water in in over the years, and it would be a shame to have the tank "POP" on you.

Neat little machine. Good point about the tank. Maybe he can have it hydro-tested first before he uses it.

Fill totally with water, then even a grease gun should build enough hydraulic pressure for a home, do it yourself test. Easy to do.

Yeh, the operative thing is that the testing is done with an incompressible liquid which just leaks upon a failure rather than blows up. He might stick a gauge into that setup with the grease gun (good idea, by the way, as a cheap and easy pressure generator).
regards

Good points about the tank. I did plan to inspect it closely inside and out before building any significant preassure (one of the tags on the unit says "MAX PR 60", which I assume means the preasure relief valve is set to 60 psi), but the home hydro test sounds like a good idea.

No water came out of the pet cock at the bottom of the tank when I opened it up, but I would be suprised if it was not pretty rusty inside.
